We’re upgrading the bandwidth in our Portland colocation facility to have four times the current bandwidth. Part of the upgrade has already been completed, and the rest will be completed in May. We’ll be increasing the included data transfer and port speeds for all hosting and colocation customers without additional cost.
These Internet feeds are datacenter-grade fiber connections, connected into redundant, carrier-grade, Cisco routers, running a routing protocol called BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) that, among many things, efficiently routes traffic through the most direct available Internet feed.
We’re pleased to be able to upgrade our datacenter and pass the improvements along to our customers, and appreciate the continued patronage of our colocation, VPS, and web hosting customers supporting our locally-owned Portland business.
2019 was a year of continued growth at SpireTech. We’d like to thank all our clients for your continued support and your referrals – we don’t advertise much, so we appreciate every referral!
Review of 2019 Business Activity
We spent a lot of the year focused internally on improving our processes and operational maturity. Some of the areas we worked on include:
- A new billing system and customer portal
- Complete redesign of our website
- Re-organized and relaunched our blog
- Implemented brightgauge for customer reporting and performance metrics
- Improved our internal and customer documentation
- Improved our patch management system, for better and more reliable windows patching
- Moved from Slack to Teams
- Moved to Onedrive/Sharepoint for file storage
- Continued focus on improving security
We’ve also been attending conferences and quarterly IT business peer group events to keep up on current trends and best practices. We learn a lot at these events, and it is an excellent investment of our time. Read more...
SpireTech continues to change and grow. As such we have added a new domain to our emails, Spiretech.net. Within the coming month SpireTech employees will start sending emails from our spiretech.net domain as well as from our spiretech.com domain. Our support email addresses and employee email addresses will continue to receive mail at spiretech.com so there is no need to update your contacts, and there will be no change to any customer email addresses. Please make sure to note that some emails from us will now be from spiretech.net and are not spam attempts. If any emails claiming to be from us alarm you or cause you to question the validity of the email, please feel free to call our main office line and we’ll be happy to discuss the email with you.
Last year SpireTech was proud to announce our placement on Channel Futures’ 10th annual MSP 501 ranking list. This year, the 11th annual ranking, SpireTech not only made the list but has moved up in rank as well!
The MSP 501 list seeks to rank the top Managed Service Providers from around the globe. The companies are ranked with metrics that include annual revenue, the number of users supported and much more.
Channel Futures teams with Clarity Channel Advisors to evaluate the MSP contenders, and 2018 had a record number of submissions for inclusion on the list.

SpireTech is proud of being selected as part of the MSP 501, and will continue its focus on consistently improving our operations and customer support.
The Technical Client Manager (TCM) is a new, enhanced role available to SpireTech’s VIP support clients. The TCM meets regularly with clients to collaboratively discuss ways to achieve their current and future technology needs and goals. The TCM holds a senior-level technical role and is responsible for understanding and connecting your IT processes with business results.
TCM’s meet with clients to discuss and undertake this work through periodic business reviews, or PBR’s. In a client PBR with the TCM, possible topics include improvements to existing systems, 1-3 year capital and operating budget planning, evaluation of current or future projects, and updates about new technologies that might benefit a client’s business.
Additionally, TCM’s manage projects and all major issues with clients, coordinate service delivery deadlines, and interface between SpireTech staff to select the most appropriate staff to perform specific technical work for our clients.
We’re in the process of reaching out to all VIP support clients to schedule these Periodic Business Reviews, and we prefer to meet with all clients at least once a year — and sometimes as often as 3 or 4 times a year. Read more...
SpireTech is continually seeking innovative solutions to keep our clients up to date with current options. One of the products we’ve been offering is called FileCloud, which can serve as a file server replacement (when only cloud is needed), or as a hybrid that combines both cloud and on-premises file access that is compatible with Windows servers, workstations, and also Macs. In July of 2017 2140 SW Jefferson Street, home of SpireTech, suffered damage from a dumpster fire. While the majority of the building was unharmed, insurance completely remodeled the building to remove the smoke odor. During the renovations, SpireTech relocated our “people space” to 2130 SW Jefferson St. while while our home of 20+ years was being remodeled.
We are happy to announce that we will be moving back across the parking lot to the 2140 building! The moving process will be underway Friday, Feb 9th, and Saturday, Feb 10th. Aside from our physical address all contact information will stay the same. Helpdesk and phone coverage will continue during business hours while the move is taking place.
We expect to be ready to welcome visitors to our renovated space by Monday February 12th. If you are in the area feel free to stop by and check out our ‘new’ offices!
As you may be aware, the software company Kaspersky has recently been a heated topic of discussion in the media and amongst the IT security community. Last month U.S. government agencies were told to use other security solutions. SpireTech, as are most IT providers, is continuing to offer and support Kaspersky products. However, we want to make sure all our customers are aware of additional security software alternatives we offer and support. SpireTech Has Moved Temporarily – but just to the other side the street!
Following the dumpster fire in July, which damaged the lower levels of the building where SpireTech occupies the top floor, we have relocated our “people space” to another building in the same office park.
We are now located at 2130 SW Jefferson Street, Suite 300, which is just on the other side of the parking lot from 2140. However, other than our physical address, all our contact information remains the same – with all of our telephone and technology contact information staying unchanged.
We expect to be in our temporary offices until the building repairs and renovations are completed, hopefully before the end of December. If you’re in the area, you’re welcome to stop by and check out our temporary home.
